Abt Sportline is the world’s largest VW tuner and recently they introduced on the market a variety of aftermarket parts for the 2010 Golf and GTI models.

The exterior will now boast with new grill and front fascia, side skirts, spoiler and rear fascia while the 18- or 19-inch wheels will come with the choice of sport rubber. The lowering springs can be easily adjusted and the brakes can be upgraded to 345mm or 380mm sizes.

When it comes to the turbocharged engines Abt has a few performance packages up the sleeve. The GTI’s 2.0-liter turbo-four will replace the old 207 horsies (197 in the States) with 240 nasty new stallions while Golf TDI’s 2.0-liter diesel engine will go from 140 to 170 horsepower in a heartbeat. In addition to all that the European 1.4-liter engine will upgrade from 122 to 160hp.

Volkswagen is very interested in the electric-powered cars market and in order to hit this new target the German manufacturer signed a 10 million Euros deal with Wilhelm Karmann GmbH. At least that’s what an anonymous report in the Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung was saying. I don’t know is this is the truth because according to another website (HLN.be) the amount was 20 million Euros and the first production will see the light of day in 2011.

One thing is for sure: a few months ago, Kermann presented the E3 Limousine concept announcing that this EV was co-developed with Oldenburg Energy Group (EWE) utility company.

We’ll keep you posted with more information when the official information will be released to the press.

VW is entering the race for the best microcar

From what we see today, it seems that microcars are the new thing, because of the low fuel consumption. We all know about the Smart, but VW is working on a rival for it.

The wheel turner will be a 1.2L four cylinder or with 3 cylinders running on gasoline. The later one will benefit from a cylinder cutoff technology so it will run on as many pistons necessary to save fuel, going 117 miles with just one gallon. And as we can expect, an electric version is also being planned.

Word on the street is that VW will be launching the new model by 2011, giving it priority status. By then I hope they will also work on the name of the model: Chico. Will all the money invested in this, I am sure they can invest in a little brainstorming for a better name.
