The 2013 SL was revealed by Mercedes-Benz and it appears that its first official showing will be at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2012. This is the 6th generation of the SL and it uses a new platform, though the basic recipe remains the same one.

The engines installed on it will be V6 and V8 and they will be mounted longitudinally. There will be a RWD configuration. The thing that makes this model special is the folding roof made from metal, which needs 20 seconds for the conversion.

Compared with the previous model, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL has a bold look and surfaces that are cleaner. It has a radiator grille which is inspired from the SLS and it’s much more efficient from an aerodynamic point of view. It’s also the first Mercedes-Benz car to be made entirely from aluminum, which allows it to be lighter than its predecessor by up to 140kg.

The first engine will be a 3.5L V6 engine, which allows the car to reach 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. The second engine will be a 4.7L V8, which will be used on the SL500. This one allows the car to reach the 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds, thanks to the 429HP. The gearbox is an automated model with 7 speeds in both cases.
